A **principle description** is a document that describes a [[principle]] by giving at least the following information:

  * and a rationale that describes why the rule holds.

Typically a principle description also gives further information like hints on when and how to apply the principle, examples, etc.

When several principle descriptions are described uniformly, this is called a [[principle catalog]].
